Set up the game
Open gamedayscore.live and tap Create an event, then Hockey. Type the away and home team names and pick a color for each. A game is always 3 periods, with an intermission after the 1st and the 2nd.
Under If it's tied after the 3rd, pick what your league does: Can end in a tie, Overtime, then can end tied, Overtime, then a shootout or Overtime until someone scores. Then tap Save & get the link.
Setting up needs a signal, so do it in the lobby if the rink has a weak one. Scoring works without one.

Share the link
Text the link opens your phone's share sheet with the message already written. Pick the family group chat and send. Copy puts the link on your clipboard, and the QR code button next to Text the link shows a code that parents sitting near you can scan.

Further down is Copy my scorer link. That one is for you only: it's how you carry on from another phone. Then tap Start scoring.

Puck drop and goals
Until the game starts, the screen reads Not started. Tap Puck drop at the opening faceoff; a first goal starts the game too.
Each team has one big Goal button with its name under it. Tap it when the puck goes in. The screen stays on while you score.
The goals by period and Latest goals sit above the buttons, so you can check every goal at a glance.
One Goal button per team -
Fix a mistake
Undo steps back one action at a time: a goal, the end of a period, a shootout goal. Tap it again to keep going back.
Noticed a wrong goal later? Tap a team's score at the top, or Catch up, to set the right goals for any period (step 6). The live page follows every fix as soon as it's sent.
Undo The last thing you tapped, one at a timeCatch up Set the right goals for any period -
End of a period
The app keeps no clock, so you end each period: tap End the 1st at the bottom of the screen. It asks End of the 1st?; Start the 2nd starts the next period when play resumes, and Not yet takes it back.
Meanwhile family's page shows “1st intermission” and the time it started, so the break doesn't look like lost signal.
End of the 1st? Confirm or not yet -
Joined late or missed a goal?
Tap Catch up (also either team's score at the top, or Catch up / edit score in the menu). Copy the rink scoreboard in, period by period: each team's goals in each period. Then pick the Period now and tap Save & keep scoring.
What changed goes into the goal list as “Caught up”. If a number went down, it's “Score corrected”, and the live page says Score corrected at 7:31 PM.
Catch up, period by period -
No signal at the rink
Keep tapping. Every goal is saved on your phone first, and the pill at the top counts what's waiting, like Offline · 3 to send. Your taps go out by themselves, in order, as soon as there's a signal.
Meanwhile family's page reads Delayed after 2 minutes without news, then catches up when your taps arrive.
Leave the app open until the count is gone. Anything still waiting when you close it is sent the next time you open the app.
Handing the phone job to another parent? They open your scorer link on their phone and carry on. Let your phone send everything first: goals a phone never sent are dropped when the other phone takes over.
-
End of the game, overtime and ties
After the 3rd period, tap End the 3rd. If a team leads, the app asks Game over?: Finish game makes it final, Fix the score first opens Catch up, and Not yet, undo takes it back.
Tied? With a tie allowed, the button reads End as a tie. With overtime, it reads Start overtime: sudden death, the next goal wins. When that goal goes in, the app asks you to check it matches the scoreboard, then Finish game (or Not yet, undo the goal).
With Overtime until someone scores, a scoreless overtime ends with Start OT2, and so on until a goal.
-
The shootout
If you picked Overtime, then a shootout and overtime ends with no goal, tap Go to a shootout. The goal score stays as it is.
Tap +1 for each shootout goal a team makes, and − to take one back. When a team leads, the button reads, for example, Home Team wins the shootout 2–1 · Finish. The app asks once more, then Finish game; Keep counting goes back.
Count the shootout goals -
The final, and fixing it
The final screen shows the winner, the goals by period and every goal in order of play. Text the final score sends the recap, and Copy copies it:
Final: Home Team 4, Away Team 2
Got a period wrong? Edit scores lets you fix the goals in any period, then Save scores. The game stays final and the result follows the new totals; the shootout counts can't be edited.
New match sets up the next game with the same teams and tie rule. Back to home goes to your list of games.

What your family sees
They tap the link and the live page opens in their phone's browser. No app, no sign-in, no refreshing: the score changes by itself.
-
Live
The period, both scores, the goals by period and the latest goals. “Updated 5 seconds ago · 9 watching” shows it's really live.
-
Intermissions
“1st intermission” and when it started, until you start the next period. If your phone loses signal for 2 minutes, the page says Delayed instead, then catches up when you're back.
-
Final
The winner, how it ended (in overtime or the shootout), every goal in order and when the game ended. The link keeps working after the game, so latecomers still see the result.
After a catch up that lowered a score, or an edit after the game, a note reads Score corrected at 7:31 PM. so a jump in the score doesn't look like a glitch.
The rules the app follows
Exactly how the app scores a game, and what it doesn't do yet.
How it scores
- One goal per tap. Each team has its own Goal button.
- 3 periods, with an intermission after the 1st and the 2nd. Periods end when you say so.
- Tied after the 3rd: a tie, one sudden-death overtime then a tie, one sudden-death overtime then a shootout, or overtime until someone scores, as you chose at setup.
- Sudden death. The first goal in overtime wins; the app asks you to confirm it.
- The shootout is counted apart. Shootout goals never change the goal score; the team with the most shootout goals wins.
Not in hockey yet
- A game clock. You end each period yourself.
- Penalties and power plays.
- Who scored, and following one player.
- Stats: shots, saves, assists. The shootout has no shooters or rounds.
Questions parents ask
Does my family need an app or an account?
No. They tap the link and the live page opens in their phone's browser: no app, no sign-in. You don't need an account to keep score either. Your games are saved on your phone.
What if I lose signal at the rink?
Keep tapping. Every goal is saved on your phone and sent as soon as there's a signal; the pill shows how many taps are waiting, like Offline · 3 to send. Family sees Delayed after 2 minutes without news, then the score catches up.
I got there in the 2nd period. Can I still score?
Yes. Tap Catch up, type each team's goals in the 1st and 2nd from the scoreboard, pick the Period now, then tap Save & keep scoring.
Does a shootout goal count in the score?
No. The goal score stays level, and the shootout goals are counted apart. The final shows both, for example “Final: Home Team 3, Away Team 3, Home Team wins the shootout 2–1”.
Can I change the score after the game?
Yes, the goals. On the final screen, Edit scores lets you fix any period. The game stays final, the result follows the new totals, and family sees “Score corrected” with the new final. The shootout can't be changed after the game.
Can someone else take over scoring?
Yes, with your scorer link (Copy my scorer link on the Share screen). They open it on their phone with a signal and carry on, and your phone shows Scoring moved to another phone. Send it only to the person taking over: anyone with it can change the score.
Can people we didn't invite find the live page?
Each game gets its own random link, and live pages are hidden from search engines. Only people you send the link to can watch, and only someone with the scorer link can change the score.
How long does the live page stay up, and can I delete it?
Until 30 days after the last change to the score; a game nobody scored is removed after 48 hours. You can delete it any time you have a signal: Delete event in the game menu, or the trash button on the game in your list on the app's home screen (that's how you delete a finished one). Then the link shows “This event isn't available.”
